CFDA Awards Winners

The CFDA Awards have come and gone once more. Some fabulous people were in attendance. SJP rocked a flow-y McQueen gown, Rachel Zoe in a shimmery, deep blue number, while Carmen Kass showed up in a gown with a deep back that clearly stated to me that girlfriend needs a burger and FAST. While I’ll continue why she’s even a relevant model, we’ll move on to the awards.

The Winners of the 2010 CFDA Awards:

Womenswear Designer of the Year: Marc Jacobs – Marc continues to impress and is wonderful. Is there anything to hate about his clothes?

Menswear Designer of the Year: Rag & Bone

Accessories Designer of the Year: Alexis Bittar

Swarovski Womenswear Designer of the Year: Jason Wu

Swarovski Menswear Designer of the Year: Richard Chai

Swarovski Accessories Designer of the Year: Alexander Wang

Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award: Michael Kors

International Award: Christopher Bailey – Gotta’ love Burberry.

Eugenia Sheppard Award: Kim Hastreiter

Fashion Icon Award: Iman Eleanor

Lambert Award: Tonne Goodman

CFDA Board of Directors’ Special Tribute Award: Alexander McQueen – Apparently the tribute began with SJP and then there was a runway of the latest collection. Long live McQueen.

Diane von Furstenberg Re-Elected

While I await the nominees of the CFDA Awards, here’s something relevant to the topic. Diane von Furstenberg was re-elected as president of the CFDA.

Staying On: CFDA Extends DVF’s Term

by Marc Karimzadeh Posted Wednesday March 17, 2010 From WWD
NEW YORK — If Mayor Bloomberg can do it, so can DVF.

At the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s board meeting earlier today, the board voted to make changes to the bylaws, and re-elected Diane von Furstenberg for a third, two-year term as president of the organization.

This is a change from a bylaw put in place five years ago, which, after Stan Herman served in that role for 15 years, restricted CFDA presidents to two two-year terms. Von Furstenberg, whose presidency would have come to an end at the end of this year, will now serve as president of the CFDA until Dec. 31, 2012.

The decision, which was said to have been supported overwhelmingly by CFDA board members, is seen as a clear vote of confidence in von Furstenberg’s leadership. In the past four years, the designer has worked diligently to work with the industry and grow the organization’s membership.
