In Tom Ford’s issue of Vogue Paris, Crystal Renn, Abbey Lee, and Eniko Mihalik star as outlaws in Pussy West, a wild west wonderland referencing Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! and probably Back to the Future’s DeLorean. What fantastical usage of Givenchy HC and Louis Vuitton Fall 2010. This is one group of outlaws I’d thoroughly running into trouble with.
**Outtake includes Tom Ford and Terry Richardson laying one on each other. Awkward or oddly sexy? I’ll go with awkward.

I have never particularly been a fan of Crystal Renn, something about her face may have bothered me, but she certainly looks great in the latest Harper’s Bazaar. Let’s face it, if the girl can fit into sample sizes, she in no way can be considered plus-size, but regardless of the fact, people will be talking and hating whether she goes up a few or down a few in dress sizes. I will never understand this. She has overcome an eating disorder and has been comfortable speaking about such; trying I suppose to be a sort of an advocate. Everyone seemingly gets into a rage whenever she loses weight, but who made it her job to always be that plus-size model? Who says she can’t be healthy and happy? If these things result in her being thin, why should people criticize this? Sure it may seem a bit humorous and slightly crass to defend a girl losing weight, but what it all comes down to is that she has to defend herself being healthy and exercising regularly. The fact is that the girl is a successful model and she’ll get support whatever bracket she seems to be representing.
Let’s kick of everyone’s week with a breathtaking and dark masquerade, lensed by Mert & Marcus. The 90th Anniversary issue of Vogue Paris will be in my possession as soon as I can attain it in this college town. This is one of two editorials featuring cover model, Lara Stone, and she is joined by an elite cast of models. Carine handled the styling quite superbly; the skeleton, the Givenchy crown of thorns and the Treacy creations are such wondrous and what my dreams are made of. Magnificent.

I don’t really get the buzz on Crystal Renn. Fine, fine, she’s a “plus-size” model living in a real model’s world, but then, everyone is making a big deal that she may or may not be losing weight. Why does it matter? The media makes a big deal that she’s the poster-child for the average woman and it seems like every editorial the girl gets, it focuses on the body. Luckily she gets reputable work on a few runways and campaigns, but she did Chanel Resort and even I pointed out she lost a bit of curve, but really, that’s great for her. The photo above was posted on Ford Models Blog and the buzz last week was that she is apparently losing weight. Jean Paul Gaultier features Crystal in the latest Fall campaign and well, she appears to be her stunning self regardless of size. Why focus on the body when she’s still doing her job in a healthy manner? Sure the clothes and the styling aren’t that great, but she looks healthy and girlfriend can do whatever she wants with her body and should so without public scrutiny.

St. Tropez was the selected location for Chanel Resort 2011. It was definitely a blast from 70s past. The usual bouclé tweed jackets were ever present along with staples from the 70s that included crocheted dresses and caftans. The cast of models from the film Lagerfeld made to preview this collection were all there, strutting barefoot down the road by a roadside café that onlookers sat and watched. It’s nice to see Karolina Kurkova modeling runway again. I really enjoy her being back. I bet VS regrets dropping her a year or so ago. Also, did anyone really care about Crystal Renn and Georgia May Jagger being cast in the show? The only thing plus-size about Crystal is her boobs and wasn’t it about time for Georgia May to hit up the runways anyway. Another failed attempt to change standards, so I feel the designers should just stop trying and let it evolve. I’m tired of hearing Crystal Renn’s name and then a focus on shape and her being a plus-sized model.
Resort collections are really hit and miss with me. They can be either boring or effortlessly cool. Chanel here capture ugly and effortlessly cool in this collection. I’m not going to lie. A majority are really beautiful pieces, and I really loved the menswear, but overall there were some really fug pieces that need to go and stay where the 70s birthed them. I enjoy the florals, the denim, and the sweaters, especially the green one that Baptiste wears. Sexy.
When there were accessories, there were some hot shades, a few bags, and some sandals. I think Lagerfeld could have completed some of the looks with some really cute must-have sandals instead of having the majority of the models traipsing around barefoot, even if his three male models were absolutely stunning doing so. What I did notice is that he brought these gold, wedge gladiators down the street runway. I honestly thought gladiators were coming to an end up so high in the clothing chain, but nope, they keep coming and actually work well with the looks.
I did really enjoy this collection, but I feel some of the elements could have been updated more. I know a lot of sources could disagree, but we don’t need pieces straight from the decade. Bring them out and update them a bit more and bring in a whole new level of Riviera-chic to the table.
Did he have to put the ugly clothes on Crystal Renn? I’m just saying. Take a “plus-size” model, yeah whatever, and then put her in the ugly clothes. Oh, well. Needless to say I didn’t like Crystal Renn until this week, so I should probably get to my post of an editorial with her. Maybe tomorrow or something.
I suppose Alessandra, Crystal Renn, and Brooklyn Decker will be sharing the cover of Glamour Magazine’s June issue. They’re on location in St Barth’s and celebrating different shapes and sizes. Hm, the only problem is, Crystal Renn is a plus-size model and still not plus-sized if you catch my drift. She’s by far not a beached whale in any scenario. Oh, I’m expecting Photoshop to perfect it a little too. Just saying. Nice try, Glamour.
